ToolWorks lets you use our equipment, tools and expertise to get you on intimate terms with your bicycle.

DIY Tool Rental time is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, during our regular open hours.

ToolWorks provides you with:

For the use of tools, stand, oil, grease we charge $12 per hour. For every hour of mechanic assistance we charge an additional $60. Obviously, you will normally only need a portion of this time, so we pro-rate it according to the minutes you use. The formula, then, is: $12 / hr tool rental + $60 / hr mechanic help.

Toolworks DIY Policy

• No mechanical experience is required; just show up with your bike and lots of patience. Learning to fix your own bike will take time but will hopefully pay back in the long run in savings and confidence.
• While at CBN treat others with the respect they deserve and that you expect yourself to receive.
• Leave the work areas cleaner than you found them.
• Put away all your tools! We can't emphasize this enough.
• Ask us if unsure of how to use a tool.
• We supply tools, stands, grease, rags, handcleaner and instruction (see rates above).
• We value learning and the empowerment people receive through Toolworks.

Parts

We have some new and used parts. You can also visit bike shops such as Urbane Cyclist (180 John St. Toronto, 416-979-9733) and Bike Joint (290 1/2 Harbord Street (west of Bathurst on Harbord)). You can also access used parts in Kensington Market at Parts Unknown in the back alley at Baldwin and Augusta, and at Mike the Bike in the back alley just across from the park on Augusta (ask the locals). Both are reputable recyclers who don't deal with stolen bikes.

• We encourage you to also visit the Bike Pirates, located at 1292 Bloor St. (just east of Lansdowne)
• Bikechain is a University of Toronto students program located in the basement of 33 St. George Street, International Students Building. Open weekdays 12-5pm during school year with reduced summer hours. Call 416-978-6849.
• West End Bike Club is located in the underground parking garage of Dufferin Mall, 900 Dufferin Street, P2 SH post. Open Thursdays, 6:30-8:30pm, once the weather is warm enough. Call 416-855-6625.
