Nominations to fill vacancies on the advisory board of the Community Bicycle Network (CBN) are open until Monday, May 5 for those interested in standing for election at CBN's Annual General Meeting on Monday, May 12. We encourage all interested parties to inquire.
CBN is a community-based bicycle organization with the goal of promoting and stimulating healthy, active, and neighbourhood-friendly sustainable transportation initiatives within the City of Toronto. CBN has taken the bold move of becoming a self-sustaining social enterprise that recycles and sells bikes and services to fund its community projects, including bicycle repair and skills workshops, and bike giveaways / earn-a-bike programs to people with low income. Some of CBN's previous successful projects include bicycle sharing and promotion programs, a speaker series, and a bicycle-themed poster auction.
CBN operates under the supervision of a volunteer advisory board of up to twelve people elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. CBN's Annual General Membership Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2008 at CBN – 761 Queen St. W.
CBN will hold its Annual General Membership meeting at 761 Queen Street West, on Tuesday, May 12th, 2008. Polls open at 3:00 pm, with the meeting beginning at 7:00 pm.
It is a great opportunity to shape the future of CBN. At this meeting, we will vote on resolutions, elect new Directors to the CBN Board, reflect on CBN's activities and accomplishments of the past year, and review plans for the coming year. The meeting will be followed by an informal member reception and refreshments.
You will need to apply for a CBN membership to vote at the AGM.
If you would like to nominate someone (or yourself) to run for the Board of Directors, please email personnel@communitybicyclenetwork.org to receive a nomination form.
Please join us for a general meeting of the Community Bicycle Network at 7 p.m. on Monday July 9, at 761 Queen Street West.
At the meeting we will elect new Directors, and discuss a brave new direction for CBN in bicycle promotion and education. We will also address how to encourage CBN members to take on leadership roles.
Background
CBN by-laws dictate that when the number of Directors on the organization's Advisory Board falls below five, a general meeting of the membership and new elections must be held. Because of recent resignations among current Advisory Board members, Board membership has fallen to four.
Join CBN on July 9 and help us meet this challenge head on.
Thank you.
Nominations to fill vacancies on the Community Bicycle Network (CBN) advisory board are open until July 2 for people interested in standing for election at the CBN General Meeting on Monday, July 9, 2007.
CBN is currently looking for enthusiastic people with skills in a variety of areas such as accounting, fundraising, event planning, project management, law and communications.
Individuals who are nominated and agree to stand for election to the CBN Board will be making a commitment to a two-year term. They will agree to attend monthly two- to three-hour Board meetings and to contribute an additional two to three hours per month to a CBN committee, task group or other related volunteer work.
