Nominations to fill vacancies on the advisory board of the Community Bicycle Network (CBN) are open until Monday, May 5 for those interested in standing for election at CBN's Annual General Meeting on Monday, May 12. We encourage all interested parties to inquire.
CBN is a community-based bicycle organization with the goal of promoting and stimulating healthy, active, and neighbourhood-friendly sustainable transportation initiatives within the City of Toronto. CBN has taken the bold move of becoming a self-sustaining social enterprise that recycles and sells bikes and services to fund its community projects, including bicycle repair and skills workshops, and bike giveaways / earn-a-bike programs to people with low income. Some of CBN's previous successful projects include bicycle sharing and promotion programs, a speaker series, and a bicycle-themed poster auction.
CBN operates under the supervision of a volunteer advisory board of up to twelve people elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. CBN's Annual General Membership Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2008 at CBN – 761 Queen St. W.
A variety of skilled and talented people are sought. Strengths in areas such as promotions, events-planning, accounting, fundraising, strategic planning, the law, and communications, for example, are welcome. This year we are particularly interested in nominees who would like to help build CBN into a fully self-sustaining operation.
Individuals who are nominated and agree to stand for membership election to the CBN Board will be making a commitment to a two-year term. They will agree to attend a monthly two-hour Board meeting and to contribute an additional two to three hours per month to a CBN committee, task group or other board-related volunteer work.
Interested individuals may nominate themselves or others to the CBN Board by completing the Nominations Form available here and submitting it to personnel@communitybicyclenetwork.org or the address below by May 5, 2008.
Nominees must be CBN members in good standing as of May 5, 2008. If you are not currently a member, you will need to complete the online Membership application, which is available here. Membership fees are no longer being requested or collected.
