The flat-fix/tune-up classes consist of:

Flat Fix - hands-on segment:

Participants will remove their own rear wheel and tire and go
through a tube repair and installation.

A brief discussion of:

Bike fit
General safety issues (loose parts, damage, etc)
Lubrication

Intermediate Bike Repair Workshops
We are now offering classes in bike repair that build on our introductory (‘Flat-fix and Tune-up’) class. Registrants should be familiar and comfortable with the subject of that class before taking the intermediate class(es).

The classes are taught by experienced mechanics and provide an intimate, focused, learning environment. The number of participants is limited to 6 per class.

The class outline is structured and focused to cover as much as possible in a relatively short amount of time. As a beginner to bike repair, we expect you will learn a lot and come away feeling much more comfortable with the workings of your machine. It is also an ideal refresher for someone who has taken a class in the past, or has some limited, but spotty experience. You will almost certainly learn some new techniques and tricks.

Intermediate Workshops do not have to be taken together or in any particular order.

Please bring your bike if possible. You will probably get dirty, so dress accordingly!

Bike Repair - Brakes and Gears

- Identify all components of a braking system and its parts
- Learn to troubleshoot component problems

Build Your Own Truing Stand

You've learned to true, or even build your own wheels, but now you need a truing stand and don't want to spend the big bucks? Good news: you can build your own!

In this workshop, we'll make use of recycled materials to construct a truing stand that you take home at the end of the night. We'll present some possible prototypes for you to recreate, or you can design your own.

Supplies will be provided; extra gadgets will be available for a small fee!

Price: $30 + GST = $31.50

Wheelbuilding Part II

Wheelbuilding
You must sign up for both workshops.

The wheel building workshops will teach with standard wheels in a 3-cross lacing pattern. We will cover spoke calculations, lacing the wheels, truing and tensioning. Participants must take both classes.

If you register at least 3 weeks in advance you can purchase rims, hubs and spokes through CBN, otherwise expect to build wheels from our stock components. Please let us know if you are planning to build wheels for yourself in advance whether you would like to build wheels for yourself, or use CBN resources to build a wheel that you'll leave behind, for learning purposes only.

The class will BEGIN at 7 pm sharp, please plan to arrive no less than 5 minutes before.

The class location is: CBN Intersection, 761 Queen Street West, Toronto.
